Tokyo, Japan – Crypto Garage, Inc. provided blockchain backend services to support a project by PitPa to issue NFT degree certificates to Class of 2023 graduates of Chiba Institute of Technology. 

The NFT degree certificates that PitPa helped issue combine two technologies: NFTs, which are publicly available on-chain, and Verifiable Credentials (VC), which can be set to be public or private by the students. By combining these technologies, the student’s privacy is protected. The NFT image only states that the student is a graduate of Chiba Institute of Technology, and personal information such as the student’s name, degree, and department is issued as VC. This is the first case in Japan of a university converting degree certificates into NFTs, as of March 22, 2023, according to PitPa.

Crypto Garage provided the key management service “mahola wallet” that manages the private keys of degree certificate issuers and the blockchain backend service “mahola api” to create and update transactions for issuing and managing the NFT degree certificate. 

Crypto Garage supported this degree certificate issuance project with its technical knowledge of blockchain and its expertise in private key management as a licensed regulated cryptocurrency company, providing high security and availability.
